2019 Ford F-150: The Gold-Standard Truck Takes on the Competition

For the better part of 100 years, the Ford F-series has been the crown jewel of American trucks. The F-150 in particular has long been considered the benchmark pickup for drivers near Phoenixville and Norristown. Not much has changed with the newest 2019 F-150. While the truck has added modern technology and engineering, the new F-150 still adheres to the principles of durability, capability, and quality.

The Ford F-150 is certainly a standout among new truck models, but it's not without competition. Both the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 have gone to great lengths to dethrone the F-150 with robust capability and rugged design.

While we can't make your decision for you, we can certainly make the choice a bit easier. You can compare the F-150 against its major competitors below to see which one appeals to you most.

2019 Ford F-150 vs. 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500

The Ford F-150 beats out the Chevy Silverado 1500 in both max towing and max payload. With the 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, the Ford F-150 is rated to tow up to 13,200 pounds. The Chevy Silverado 1500 lags behind with a maximum tow rating of 12,200 pounds.

Both trucks offer a variety of powertrain options, but the Ford F-150 manages to come out on top again. While the Chevy Silverado 1500 offers five engine options, the F-150 offers six. This includes several members of the popular EcoBoost family of engines and an available Power Stroke Turbo Diesel engine.

You'll be hard pressed to find a Silverado 1500 that can match the performance of the F-150 Raptor. This special edition model comes with High Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 510 pound-feet of torque, FOX racing shocks, BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, and more. While the Silverado 1500 is a capable truck, it doesn't offer a special performance package like that of the Raptor.

The 2019 F-150 uses a high-strength military-grade in its body panels. The result is a lighter truck with better fuel efficiency. By contrast, the Silverado 1500 sticks to heavy steel.

2019 Ford F-150 vs. 2019 Ram 1500

The new 2019 F-150 offers far more engine options than the 2019 Ram 1500. The Ford offers six engine options, ranging from a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 to a Twin-Turbo EcoBoost V6. You can even get a Power Stroke Turbo Diesel engine. By contrast, the Ram 1500 only offers a 5.7-liter V8 engine and a 3.6-liter V6.

The 2019 F-150 offers more robust towing capability than the Ram 1500. With its available 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, the F-150 13,200 pounds. The Ram 1500 is limited to 12,750 pounds.

You can get unique towing features in the new F-150. Popular features include Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Dynamic Hitch Assist, and BLIS with trailer coverage. These features aren't available in the Ram 1500.

While the Ram 1500 relies on steel body panels, the Ford F-150 opts for a more modern aluminum body. A high-strength aluminum body allowed Ford to cut significant weight from the F-150.
